Nippon Culture Day
October 20, 2011 All day event East-West Imin Center In October, members of Ikebana International Honolulu Chapter 56 were invited to participate at the UHM Japanese Language Department's Nippon Culture Day at the East-West Center Imin Center. Elaine Arita spear headed a committee in a demonstration and a hands-on make and take workshop for 40 plus Japanese language students. Jean Marutani of the Ikenobo School of Ikebana was the demonstrator and the workshop leader. On display were Ikenobo arrangements by Jean Marutani, Pat Kimoto, and Diana Salansky. Elaine Arita, Dolly Kochi, Diana Salansky, Pat Kimoto, and Betty Tanaka assisted students in creating their pieces.
Participants used recycled plastic water bottles, red carnations, and thin day iris leaves to create their ikebana pieces. |
