Areca Palm Weaving Workshop

Sunday, February 19, 2012
1-3 PM
Moiliili Community Center
Room 105

Twenty plus members came together to learn how to braid areca fronds into unique curved designs. Sogetsu instructor Mitzi Taura presented the class with elegant ikebana arrangements that incorporated the palm fronds before showing the eager students how to “French braid” a frond into a delightful design. Each frond had to have perfect leaves and the spacing of the leaves determined the look of the final design. It was both a challenging and gratifying experience for all participants.
