Participants were given a selection of greens and dendrobium orchids. Following a demonstration by Shibata Sensei, everyone rushed to their tables to create an arrangement. The concept was to use the surface of the materials, e.g. the surface of the monstera leaf, the woven surface of the horse tails, to emphasize the movement of lines in the ikebana.  This concept used traditional materials in exciting new ways by emphasizing the linear surface of the materials.
