Aloha Luncheon
18 May 2025
May
Flowers was the theme for the Chapter 56 spring
luncheon at 3660 on the Rise
with 41 members and guests in attendance. The
event began with an explanation
of Taisaku which is a large scale, focal
arrangement. Our Taisaku structure of
six foot tall Black Bamboo was created by Sensei
Earl Shimabukuro. Black Bamboo
and smaller Yellow Bamboo branches were added to
define the overall shape.
Alternating with large Obake Anthuriums,
Baby’s
Breath, yellow
Oncidium orchids,
white Chrysanthemums, and orange Heliconia,
members and guests added Camellia
branches, Whaleback, Palisota, and Ludovia leaves.
No direction was given as to
where materials should be placed, and everyone was
amazed at the final result.
Sensei Earl critiqued by moving the Heliconia to a
more pleasing spot which
allowed more negative space and movement to
appear.
Lucille Lew and Lisa Lee, the L&L team welcomed members, guests, and even some curious ladies who are considering joining Chapter 56. Mistress of Ceremonies, Joyce Nakamura entertained the audience with her wit and impromptu engaging performance. Following a delightful buffet lunch, President Patricia Kubo presided over a general membership meeting. |
