Nerikiri Workshop

19 October 2024

Multitalented Chapter 56 member Dawn Sur taught 17 members and guests how to make Nerikiri on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Moiliili Community Center.  She was assisted by her Wagashi trained students: Debra Lau-Shiroma and Jennifer Shintani.  Nerkiri is a type of Japanese wagashi made by kneading and mixing sweetened white bean paste and glutinous rice flour.  Dawn provided participants with a seven page information packet featuring colored pictures.  The basic recipe including tips, and websites was included. Participants rotated between three stations to create five different colored flower design Nerkiri.  Each creation was individually packaged in Japanese plastic showcase containers. The participants were also gifted with a tea cup of their choice filled with green tea and a Hydrangea lemon flavored Nerikiri treat.   Following the lesson, everyone enjoyed time to socialize and reminisce about this exciting learning experience.
